Eventful Week

It´s been quite the week so far.  I´ve been pretty tired all week from the Costa Rican adventure this weekend.  The homesickness has been hitting pretty hard too (also intensified by the tiredness), but God has been very faithful in giving me the strength I need to get through each day, one day at a time.

Yesterday after class I went to the bookstore and bought 3 books for $10! I love cheap books :)  I bought a devotional by Henri Nouwen, Pride and Prejudice, and Old Man and the Sea, all in Spanish! I can´t wait to start them.  I then walked home, which felt good to stretch my legs out a bit--I´m definitely feeling the effects of a lack of exercise and am contemplating getting a gym membership.  Julie picked me up for Hosanna, and I was thoroughly blessed by it...it was as if God had planned the whole service just for me, songs, sermon, company, and all.  After church my friend Daniela picked me up and took me to this cool restaurant with outdoor seating and a great view of the city.  We went to the movies then, but we were too late and there weren´t any more starting! So we got some dessert and sat and talked. It was a wonderful evening and she´s a great new friend.  We talked for probably 3 hours about various stuff.  She´s the friend that is going to help me with my Spanish errors and I´m going to help her with her English.  We´re going to a movie tonight since last night didn´t work out, and we might go somewhere for the day on Saturday.

Today at lunch I sat with some people from my first class of the day.  Sometimes I feel like I´m back in 7th grade being the new girl at school, and trying to find a familiar face is a scary task.  But this group was wonderful, and they´re all business students.  They are part of the business students´organization here on campus (one of the very few student clubs or organizations), and were having their first meeting today.  I ended up skipping my history class to go to the meeting, and am so glad I did! They are a great group of students and want to be active in the student community and do social work and create events for students, both academic and social.  They had elections for open officer positions, and I ended up nominating myself for treasurer, and got elected!  I´m excited to be getting involved in campus life and getting to know some more students/new friends, and it´s really helping me to feel more at home and more comfortable here.

Aly,
I am so excited to finally get a chance to read your blog. It sounds like you are having a wonderful time down in Costa Rica. I just knew the accountant in you would come out someday ("congratulations on your new treasurer position :). I hope to spend more time reading about your adventures now that school is settling into a routine. We are having our first BSO picnic next Tuesday. We will miss you there and of course, I miss seeing your smiling face around here. May God continue to bless your time away. Be safe.

Love,
Heather Rogers
