I should have learned by now, after the cow-tail-soup incident, not to ask what my food is. Unfortunately, though, I have a dietary analysis assignment for an online nutrition course I'm taking, and we have to record everything we eat for 3 days. So I violated my don't-ask-what-you're-eating rule and asked what kind of meat we just had for lunch. "Hígado," replied my host mom matter-of-factly. "Y que es hígado? And what is that?" I questioned, now wary of the answer, as I was just expecting her to tell me it was beef or something. "Liver. Cow liver."
UGH. At the risk of being culturally insensitive in judging this dietary choice, I just want to ask....Do they understand what the liver's function is?! It processes bodily toxins. Awesome. I just ate the detoxifier of a now-dead-cow. That's all.
