Protest weekend

This is going to be an interesting weekend, with political protests and such...Kate summed it up nicely on her blog, so I'm just copying and pasting what she said:

Last year around this time, the mayoral elections were held all throughout the country of Nicaragua.  They turned out to be a total fraud as votes were thrown away, ignored or unfairly cast.  It was a pretty big deal with a lot of protest.  Since then, the president has been working to change the constitution so that he will be able to run for election again [it previously stated that one could only run for two terms in office, and Ortega is 4 years through his second 6 year term, so of course, why wouldn't he work to change that right?!].  There are supposed to be some pretty big protests [potentially/definitely turning violent] this weekend.  People are already flooding into the capital city of Managua to gear up for the event.  FSLN flags are waving, people are gathering, fireworks are being sold...and I just heard the first few fireworks actually go off...Already? The protesting and marching isn't until Saturday!! Well, prepare yourself, Managua. It's gonna be a big weekend!

My plan is to stay away from the action, hunker down at my house, and get a head start on homework for next week, my final papers, and studying for finals.  Woo hoo!!
