I am officially booked to go to Managua! I just finished booking my flight, which is a major relief. I leave at 11:45 pm on August 17th. I can't believe how fast it's creeping up on me--I've got a lot to do but have barely started any of it :)
I have three different people to be in contact with in churches and ministry in Managua, which is a comfort and a blessing. One of them is a couple who are good friends with my Spokane family, the McDonalds. They are on field staff with Young Life there and I hope to meet them when I get there. The next is another YL field staffer named Jeff. He is friends with Roy, the camp director in the Dominican Republic where I worked a couple years ago. Roy emailed Jeff and he and I have exchanged emails so that when I get to Managua we can meet and I can maybe go out to see the YL camp there. Finally, I was looking online to see about churches in Managua and came across an inter-denominational Christian one that is in English. I emailed the church to ask for more information and heard back from Dave, who started the church. He invited me to come check out the church when I arrive. It gives me a little more peace of mind to have even those little connections made and to know that I have found a church I can attend there.
Right now, I'm off to Hawaii for a week with friends from Whitworth, but when I get back, I'll be hitting it hard to get everything all ready.
